    A healthy workplace is one where workers and managers collaborate to continually improve the health, safety and wellbeing of all workers and by doing this, sustain the productivity of the business (World Health Organisation, 2009).

    Given we spend one third of our lives at work, the working environment can have a significant impact on our health and wellbeing. A healthy working environment is one in which there is not only an absence of harmful conditions that can cause injury and illness but an abundance of health-promoting ones (WHO, 2010).

    Workplace health and wellbeing programs take into consideration the impacts that the work environment and the type of work can have on the health of workers, and provide activities or initiatives that are designed to make healthy choices the easy choice for workers. This issue focuses on how to better the work environment, it also contains some health information you may find interesting.

  • Environmental and Health Drivers of Mpox Transmission in Endemic Regions

    Le Mpox (anciennement appelé variole du singe) est réapparu comme un problème majeur de santé publique dans plusieurs régions d’Afrique centrale, en particulier en République démocratique du Congo (RDC), où la maladie demeure endémique. La province de la Tshuapa — notamment les zones de santé de Lingomo, Djolu et Bokungu — continue d’enregistrer des flambées récurrentes, ce qui souligne l’urgence de mieux comprendre les facteurs locaux favorisant la transmission.

    Ce numéro est consacré à l’identification et à l’analyse des facteurs environnementaux, socio-écologiques et liés au système de santé qui favorisent la transmission du Mpox dans la province de la Tshuapa. Les écosystèmes forestiers denses de la région, la dépendance à la viande de brousse, les interactions étroites entre l’homme et l’animal, l’accès limité aux soins de santé ainsi que l’insuffisance des systèmes de surveillance épidémiologique peuvent, ensemble, contribuer à la persistance de la transmission et aux retards dans la réponse aux épidémies.

    Les facteurs environnementaux tels que la variabilité climatique, les changements d’utilisation des terres, la déforestation, la présence de réservoirs fauniques et les conditions d’assainissement jouent un rôle déterminant dans la dynamique de transmission du Mpox. Par ailleurs, les facteurs liés à la santé — notamment le niveau de sensibilisation des communautés, les comportements de recours aux soins, les antécédents vaccinaux, les capacités diagnostiques, les pratiques de prévention et de contrôle des infections, ainsi que les infrastructures sanitaires — influencent de manière significative à la fois la propagation et la maîtrise de la maladie.

    Ce numéro invite des études empiriques, des rapports de surveillance, des analyses épidémiologiques et des recherches orientées vers les politiques publiques examinant la manière dont ces déterminants environnementaux et sanitaires interagissent pour favoriser la transmission du Mpox à Lingomo, Djolu et Bokungu. Les contributions intégrant le contexte local, les perspectives communautaires et les approches « Une seule santé » (One Health) sont particulièrement encouragées.

    En renforçant une compréhension fondée sur des données probantes de la transmission du Mpox dans la province de la Tshuapa, ce numéro vise à éclairer des interventions de santé publique ciblées, à améliorer la préparation face aux flambées épidémiques et à soutenir des stratégies durables de contrôle de la maladie en RDC et dans d’autres contextes endémiques similaires.
