Abstract
This study explores the application of Public Relations (PR) strategies in promoting Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) initiatives beyond flood management in Nigeria. It aims to provide insights into the benefits and challenges of extending PR strategies to encompass a broader range of disaster risks and identify effective PR approaches for enhancing public awareness, community engagement, and behaviour change towards disaster resilience. The research methodology of this discourse involves conducting a thorough analysis of existing literature, case studies, and best practices within the realm of public relations (PR) and disaster risk reduction (DRR). The research findings highlight the importance of integrating PR into DRR initiatives to shape public perceptions, raise awareness, and foster a culture of resilience. The study identifies key PR strategies such as risk communication, community engagement, and partnerships as effective tools for promoting DRR. It emphasizes the need for tailored PR approaches that consider diverse contexts and target audiences. The research concludes that comprehensive PR strategies can support and strengthen global disaster risk reduction efforts by safeguarding communities from the impacts of disasters and promoting sustainable development. The study recommends the integration of PR into DRR policy frameworks, the utilization of social media platforms for risk communication, and the establishment of partnerships with media organizations and community groups. However, the key findings and recommendations of this study will contribute to the development of PR strategies that can effectively support DRR initiatives.
